Many competent people believe experience still outweighs AI-generated code…likely true for now, especially in large enterprises. But that edge won’t last, and relying on inexperience with AI code generation as a long-term moat is a losing bet.
I know a guy who is the lead dev for an AI consulting practice. Customers are Fortune 1000. He said we are always looking for AI devs, but the bar is now so high, because the AI coding agents are so good, so we haven't made any hires yet.
I think that’s fair. “AI Dev” is likely not just a dev but also a product manager, program manager and devops person. Coding agents write a whole lot of code quickly need someone that not only understands the code but how it fits in the product lifecycle. We may be in the era of the jack of all trades.
The application explorer is a great idea. I'm in the same place as you. My apps are changing as fast as my ideas go and I totally loose track of the details. I need to trust the llm as I go, but I know at one point I need to take a day to assess, clean up and refactor so the application grows in a healthy way.
This is going on my places ai chat first thing tomorrow.
Thankfully they are providing work access to these tools but a bit more emphasis wouldn't hurt.
The thought that comes to mind is of one caveman pooh poohing that new fangled fire thingamabob - fear of change is human nature and always will be but we've always had the choice to be courageous as well.
Agreed. I have friend that runs a team of dev contractors and he says they are seeing more "asks" from corporate clients to deploy apps that someone internal vibe coded. Wow!

Hey Scott. Loved this. Been goofing with Replit for a while now and is the closest thing to a miracle on the laptop I’ve seen since R or Oblivion.
It's magical, right? I have such a hard time understanding how so many software engineers can be ignoring it.
